Our Homestead
We are modern day homesteaders, with a passion for preserving heritage breeds of poultry. We have spent many seasons building and maintaining our small breeding flocks which we find easier to manage for both the health and well being of the animals, these practices also allow us to focus on breed quality. We keep multiple bloodlines and breeding pens of our favourite breeds and varieties, we also take the time (Seasons worth) to create new lines out of our foundation stock, this allows not only us to maintain genetic diversity within our personal lines but yours as well. When you order eggs or live birds from us they are coming from multiple proven lines and will add the diversity you are looking for within your own flock.
We implemented a new Bio-security plan in 2023 and have improved our plan for 2026 and now test our flock twice a year for common poultry diseases and will continue with this plan for as long as we breed poultry. Our goal is to maintain a disease free standard within our own flock and to prevent the spread of the following poultry viruses and diseases.
We test for the following; Infectious Coryza, Marek's Disease, Mycoplasma Gallisepticum, Mycoplasma Synoviae and ALV.
We are preservation breeders and have a breeding program which puts the breeds heritage at the forefront of our program. We also breed to meet the SOP across all of our breeds, even the varieties which are not recognized by the APA. We have been improving our lines and are hoping to hit the 2026 show circuit with our top choices. We do offer hatching eggs most of the year and day old chicks and young pullets (limited) seasonally . We begin test hatching in January and often have availability for chicks during this time. We do occasionally offer ready to lay pullets, cockerels, and breeding adults.
When it comes to fertility for our hatching eggs we will not start releasing eggs until we have achieved a 90% or better fertility rate. We perform an official fertility check twice a week but use eggs daily here so we check then as well.
We are active members of the American Poultry Association, along with a few other poultry breeders and fanciers associations.
We breed our Marans and Ameraucanas to meet their SOP. We breed our Canadian Bresse to meet the draft standard for the breed here within North America. There is not currently a standard for the Silverudd's Blue breed, however, there are a set of guidelines that breeders do adhere to. We breed to meet those guidelines which you can view here. There is an acceptance for splash coloured birds to have willow coloured legs and feet, we do not allow for this in our program and select for slate feet and legs only.
For any additional information about our breeds please visit our breed specific pages, and if you have any questions please contact us. We are more than happy to answer any that you may have.
